Job Description

Job Title: Inventory Control & Asset Manager (Stairways Manufacturing)

Location: Largo, MD

Department: Supply Chain & Operations

Reports To: Director of Operations

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Inventory Control & Asset Manager to take primary ownership of all inventory systems and physical assets within our custom and production stairways manufacturing facility. In this role, inventory management is your core function—you will oversee raw materials (hardwoods, MDF, steel, aluminum, glass components), work-in-progress (WIP) stair parts, and finished custom & production assemblies.

Additionally, you will assist in managing the tracking and lifecycle of shop floor machinery and tooling.

Your mission is to maintain 100% inventory accuracy, optimize inventory turnover, eliminate stockouts that disrupt production schedules, and ensure seamless material flow from receiving to final assembly and shipping.

Key Responsibilities

1.

Core Inventory Control & Management (Primary Function)
• Inventory Accuracy & Auditing: Establish and lead regular cycle counting programs and comprehensive physical inventory audits to maintain high inventory accuracy across raw materials, hardware, custom parts, and finished goods.
• Stock Optimization & Control: Monitor stock levels, establish minimum/maximum thresholds, safety stock buffers, and reorder points for high-demand stairway components (e.g., treads, risers, balusters, handrails, stringers) to prevent production delays.
• Receiving & Warehousing: Oversee incoming shipments of raw lumber, metals, and hardware, ensuring proper inspection, tagging, logging into the ERP/inventory system, and organized warehouse storage (leveraging 5S principles).
• WIP & Finished Goods Tracking: Track custom and standard stair components through various stages of production (cutting, shaping, welding, finishing) to final packaging and shipping, minimizing loss and misplacement.
• Discrepancy Resolution: Investigate inventory variances, shrinkage, or damaged goods, identifying root causes and implementing corrective inventory procedures.

2.

Spare Parts & Shop Floor Asset Management
• Maintenance Inventory: Manage the inventory of critical spare parts, high-wear tooling (CNC bits, saw blades, welding consumables), and safety supplies to support continuous plant operations without over-allocating capital.
• Asset Tracking & Register: Maintain an accurate registry of all manufacturing equipment, machinery (CNC routers, edge banders, press brakes), and mobile tools, tracking their location, usage status, and valuation.
• Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with purchasing to manage supplier relationships, lead times, and material replenishment schedules for both raw production materials and maintenance supplies.

3.

Systems, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
• ERP / WMS Management: Utilize and optimize the company's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Warehouse Management System (WMS) to ensure real-time visibility of all inventory movements.
• Data Analytics & Reporting: Generate regular inventory turnover reports, valuation summaries, obsolescence tracking, and KPI dashboards for executive leadership.
• Lean Manufacturing Integration: Partner with production planners to implement pull systems, Kanban replenishment, and waste-reduction strategies on the shop floor.

Qualifications & Requirements
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (equivalent professional experience will be considered).
• Experience:.

• 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in inventory control, warehouse management, or asset management within a manufacturing environment (custom millwork, woodworking, or metal fabrication is a major plus).
• Direct experience handling raw materials, hardware, and bulky components specific to stairs, building materials, or architectural products.
• Technical Skills:.

• Advanced proficiency in ERP/WMS software and robust spreadsheet skills (Microsoft Excel / Google Sheets).
• Strong understanding of inventory valuation methods (FIFO, LIFO, Weighted Average) and cycle counting methodologies.
• Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, 5S, and Kanban inventory systems.
• Soft Skills:.

• Exceptional organizational skills and relentless attention to detail.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to reconcile discrepancies.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with purchasing, production teams, and warehouse staff.

Working Conditions
• Environment: A blend of a climate-controlled office space and an active manufacturing plant floor/warehouse environment, requiring adherence to all safety protocols (PPE including steel-toe boots and safety glasses).
• Physical Demands: Ability to walk the warehouse floor, stand for extended periods, and safely lift or maneuver materials up to 50 lbs when conducting audits or assisting with stock handling.

Pay: $36.00 - $40.00 per hour
Benefits
• 401(k).

• Dental insurance.

• Health insurance.

• Life insurance.

• Paid time off.

Application Question(s):
